About our dictionaries
The site uses four word lists built from SCOWL, a long-running open word-list project used by many spell checkers:
- Common words covers the everyday vocabulary most people know.
- US English (standard) adds less common but widely recognized words with American spelling.
- US English (large) adds rare, technical and specialist words.
- UK English (large) uses British spellings such as colour, theatre and organise.
A word that is missing here may still be correct. Proper nouns, abbreviations, slang and very new words are often left out of word lists. Official word lists used in organized tournaments also differ from ours, so check your game's own rules when it matters.
