Where the words come from
Our dictionaries are built from SCOWL (Spell Checker Oriented Word Lists), compiled by Kevin Atkinson and contributors. SCOWL sorts words by how common they are, which lets us offer everything from a common-words list to large US and UK lists. Full attribution is on the Credits page.
